The Ultimate Gift Guide for Homesteaders and Self-Sufficient Living

If you’re trying to find a gift for the homesteader, gardener or crunchy/granola person in your life, don’t worry, I got you! As someone who longed to have their own homestead for a long time, and now finally has her own 40 acre paradise, I have a good idea of what someone would want as a gift if they are homesteaders (or aspiring).

Books

As a mom of 3 under 4, books are hard for me. BUT, if you give me a homesteading book? I suddenly find time for them. ESPECIALLY if I can get it on Audible (a great gift too if you don’t know what book to chose!)

Garden Tools

Greenstalk Planter

I absolutely loved my Greenstalk when we had to move to another state and rent while my husband had a 7 month training for work. We didn’t want to (and couldn’t) add a garden to our rental, but we still wanted to be able to grow our own food. If you have someone on your list that wants to homestead but has limited space, or wants an easy porch herb garden or a place to plant strawberries (they love to be off the ground and do so well with them).

Pitch Fork

This was one of my most used tools during harvest season, especially for my potatoes and garlic. It’s also great for removing any plants with well established roots. Having a high quality pitchfork that won’t break when you’re using it is super important.

Metal Garden Rake

When my husband was cleaning out our garden beds in spring, this was such a useful tool. It also helped to spread our compost well and is such a handy tool. If you’re someone who rakes a yard, I also recommend it way more than a plastic garden rake (which have never worked for us!).

Gorilla Cart

Trust me, this gift would be so helpful to anyone who would receive it. The amount this can carry is insane, and it also doubles as a great way to cart the littles around the homestead.

Kitchen Tools

If you’ve never been around a homestead, you might be thinking, kitchen tools? I thought they were outside all the time. Well, if we’re not in the garden, we’re probably in the kitchen processing or cooking all of the food we’re growing. Having the right tools makes such a difference.

Canner

I love my presto digital canner and how easy it makes canning. I was so nervous to start canning, but having a super simple machine to help me do it makes it less scary and actually something I can accomplish with three kids under 4.

Freeze Dryer

Okay, this might be a spendy gift, but if you’re a spouse or maybe kids going in on a gift, this might make sense to you. It is an amazing piece of machinery. It can preserve food for 25 years and helps keep food preserved in an alternative way to canning. It can preserve a lot more than canning can as well.

Grain Mill

If you have a big bread maker on your list, I can’t recommend a grain mill enough. It truly levels up your bread making game, not to mention the added nutrition to every loaf.

Dehydrator

Dehydrators are perfect for preserving and drying food for long term storage. Think fruit leathers, beef jerky and dried apple slices! This is perfect for those with large harvests.
